What you should know about our puppies & dogs
Early Training and Socialization
From the moment they are born, our puppies are imprinted with human contact. They are identified with colored ribbons so we can track their weight, health, behaviors, and personalities as they grow. We've found that these daily interactions and observations give a more accurate assessment of the temperament of the puppy than a single aptitude test given at 6-7 weeks. Every week, the puppies weights are recorded, their nails are trimmed, and photos are taken. As they grow and develop, we introduce the pups to many different stimuli. Different surfaces are put down for them to walk and play on such as tarps, plastic, wood, cardboard, metal, textured fabric items, dirt, grass, cement, tile. Also, while taking safety into consideration, they are introduced to unstable surfaces like wobble boards, rolled around on wheels, lifted up and down on a hydraulic table, driven around in a vehicle, suspended in air with hands or harnesses, and weather depending they are introduced to water and swimming. The puppies experience various noises including radios, vacuums, television, and audio tracks of other noises like thunder, gunshots, children, dog show noises or other sounds they may encounter during their life. We use several types of interactive toys and food games to build and encourage drives in our puppies. Our puppies are accustomed to wearing collars, have been introduced to spending time in a crate, and have been started in potty training. It is extremely important to continue socializing and training once the puppy has gone to a new home.
Matching the Right Puppy
We believe that matching a family with the correct puppy is very important and is a team effort. You tell us what type of dog you are looking for, your activity level and interests, and based upon our daily observations of the puppies, we will assist you in picking the puppy that is the best match for you, so the dog with the highest drives and activity levels doesn't get placed in a low activity home, etc. We understand that part of a successful working partnership is being able to connect with a particular animal, and by having the breeder "assign" homes to each dog, you often miss out on that special connection. We generally do the matching around 6-7 weeks of age.
Registration & Identification
Our puppies are pre-named and individually registered with the American Kennel Club (AKC). If both the sire and the dam are registered with the United Kennel Club (UKC) the puppies will be individually registered with that registry as well. In most situations, you will have your registration papers in hand when taking your puppy home, although occasionally there are processing or mail delays in which case the papers would be mailed to your home shortly after. Prior to going to their new homes, all of our puppies are implanted with a microchip for identification purposes.
Veterinary Care
Our breeding dogs are fully health tested through OFA/SV/Embark prior to being bred. Unless there is a problem or concern, our puppies receive their first thorough veterinary exam around the age of 6-7 weeks, and are given their first puppy vaccination.
Spay & Neuter
We feel that it is a personal decision to spay or neuter your dog, therefore we do not have any requirements to do so. However, if you do choose to spay or neuter your dog, we strongly recommend waiting until they are fully mature (2 years old).
Feeding
We recommend feeding a balanced raw diet, however if that is impractical for your family, we recommend finding a quality diet that is free of corn, wheat, and soy. Recently there has been an increase in the use of peas in dog food, it is probably very difficult to find a food that does not have peas, but look for a food that has minimal peas or they are further down in the ingredient list. There are many choices of quality food available at your local pet store or online. When you get your puppy you will take home a bag of the food they are currently eating so you can make a gradual switch to whatever food you decide to feed. Currently our puppies are eating a mixture of raw meat and Fromm Puppy Gold.
Guarantee
We guarantee that our puppies are healthy when they go to their new homes. We also offer a written guarantee for 2 years against genetic hip and elbow dysplasia.
Returns/Sales
It is your decision to sell or re-home your dog if things aren't working out or if situations change. We don't ever want to see any of our dogs end up in shelters/rescues, so if needed we can assist in the re-homing process, or will accept any of our dogs back at any time during their life.
Shipping & Delivery
Currently we are not offering airline cargo shipping. We do offer an airport delivery service where we can fly with the puppy in cabin and we meet at the airport for pick up. Or if within reasonable driving distance we do offer some delivery services. All delivery fees are in addition to the price of the puppy/dog.
Donations
We occasionally donate puppies to qualified working dog organizations (service dog, law enforcement, 501c3, etc). Unfortunately we cannot donate dogs to individuals.
